284 confirmed COVID-19 cases including 33 imported cases reported in HK today


14th May 2022 – (Hong Kong) The fifth wave of the COVID-19 epidemic has subsided. Dr.Chuang Shuk-kwan, Head of the Communicable Disease Branch of the Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health announced that there were 284 new confirmed cases today (14th), including 33 imported cases.

No new cases were discovered in residential care homes for the elderly.

Of the imported cases, 10 were found at the airport and arrived in Hong Kong yesterday, including 3 by CX288, 2 by CX495, one each by CX170, TR980, KL819, TK070, and EK384. The other 22 were found in designated quarantine hotels, all of which were diagnosed between days 3 and 6. Another case was confirmed on the 12th day of arrival in Hong Kong. It involved a 31-year-old man who arrived in Hong Kong from Thailand via Singapore on 1st May and was confirmed positive on 12th May.

In terms of genome analysis, the authorities found an additional case of Omicron BA.4. The patient was a 60-year-old woman who arrived in Hong Kong from the United States via Switzerland on 9th May. She had a sore throat on the day of arrival and was diagnosed at the airport. There are in total 3 cumulative Omicron BA.4 cases.
