11th May 2022 – (Hong Kong) Dr. Chuang Shuk-kwan from the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health announced at 4.30pm today that there were 280 COVID-19 cases today comprising 131 confirmed via nucleic acid tests and 149 cases confirmed via Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) online declaration platform. 32 of the cases were imported today. 16 of them were detected via Temporary Specimen Collection Centre at the airport. 8 passengers arrived yesterday via flights no. JL029, AI314, SQ894, EK384, KE607 and 5J272. Meanwhile, 16 cases were found in quarantine hotels.
A total of 1,194,740 COVID-19 cases have been recorded since the beginning of the fifth wave.
Among the newly 131 confirmed cases via nucleic acid tests today, 28 were confirmed by the Hospital Authority, another 18 were confirmed by the Public Health Laboratory Service of the Department of Health and the remaining 85 were directly confirmed by private laboratories or community testing centres.
Among the 53 cases tested, there was no case that involved Delta variant. 52 of the cases involved Omicron variant while 1 case could not be ascertained due to low viral load.
3,509 schools have resumed face to-face classes today.
No new cases were found at residential care homes. A total of 24 positive cases were found at 23 schools. They comprised 15 students and 9 teaching staff. 18 of them tested positive via RAT and 6 tested positive via nucleic acid tests.
Among the the 24 positive cases, 3 of them are from kindergartens, 14 of them are from primary schools and 17 of them are from high schools. 2 of the students tested positive today are from the same family.
A total of 9,142 patients have passed away since the beginning of fifth wave and 3 new deaths were reported by Health Authority. The gross mortality rate is still maintained at 0.765%.
Dr.Chuang said that another 3 customers (2 men and 1 woman aged 71-76) from Peony Golden Court hotpot restaurant at 10 Sai Ching St, Yuen Long have tested positive for COVID-19. So far, a total of 23 customers have tested positive at the restaurant including 1 chef.
All employees have tested negative except the chef who tested positive. In total, 17 diners out of more than 190 customers have tested positive. The results of another 10 customers are still pending and 6 customers are still being traced.
Dr. Sara Ho from the Hospital Authority said that more than 892 patients were still being hospitalised. As of now, no patients were in critical condition or in serious condition. 3 of the patients in critical condition were currently being treated in Intensive Care Units.
3 patients aged over 65 passed away in the last 24 hours. None of them them was from elderly home. 2 of the deceased patients had received 2 vaccination shots.
Meanwhile, no patient tested positive during admission screening today.
Meanwhile, 22,661 employees under Hospital Authority have tested positive for COVID-19. 22,520 of them have returned to work after recovering.
