27th May 2023 – (Hong Kong) Last Saturday, on 20th May, 2023, a tragic hiking accident occurred at Tai Tong Sweet Gum Woods, claiming the life of a 25-year-old man surnamed Lau. Lau and four of his friends were hiking in the area when he lost his footing and fell, hitting his head and rendering him unconscious. Despite being rushed to the hospital and receiving treatment for six days, Lau passed away yesterday afternoon at around 3pm.
According to reports, the group of five had started their hike from the Tai Tong Shan Road car park and had been on the Ma On Shan Trail Section 10 for about half an hour before the accident occurred. Lau fell at a steep slope and suffered severe head injuries, causing him to lose consciousness. His friends also sustained minor injuries while trying to assist him.
