22-year-old Chinese female student jumps into sea after arguing with boyfriend on FaceTime at Hung Hom Ferry Pier

31st January 2023 – (Hong Kong) At 2.28am today (31st), a woman (22 years old) chatted with her boyfriend of the same age through the video call function (FaceTime) opposite the Hung Hom Ferry Pier on Wa Shun Street, Hung Hom. When talking about relationship issues during the period, the female victim became emotional and suddenly jumped into the sea. At the right time, a middle-aged man who was fishing nearby rushed forward to rescue her but failed. He called loudly to alert the nearby bar staff for help, threw the lifebuoy into the sea and assisted in reporting the incident to police for help.

Not long after, firefighters arrived, and two of them jumped into the sea and worked together to rescue the woman. She was still conscious but barefoot, and the on-site personnel had to give her a blanket to keep her warm. At the same time, the female victim’s boyfriend arrived, took off his slippers, stepped forward to put them on for her, and sent her to the hospital for treatment. It is understood that the woman speaks Mandarin, holds a Hong Kong identity card. The couple are reported to be students.
