21-year-old PolyU student sentenced to 7 years and 3 months in prison for raping 12-year-old girl with autism


1st December 2022 – (Hong Kong) A 21-year-old student from Hong Kong PolyU allegedly raped a 12-year-old high school female student, X with autism and borderline intellectual functioning in the back stairwell of the building in Tai Wai where he lived on 19th October 2020 on the pretext of doing an experiment. The student only admitted the crime of indecent assault, but denied the crime of rape. He was convicted of rape by the jury of the High Court after trial earlier. The High Court judge today sentenced the defendant to 7 years and 3 months in prison for the two charges. The judge pointed out that the case had additional punishment factors, and accused the defendant of using “experimentation” as an excuse to bully girls whose intelligence is lower than ordinary people, who does not know how to protect herself and who has no sense of crisis.
