2 men arrested for allegedly committing an act with seditious intent on social media


27th September 2022 – (Hong Kong) The National Security Department of the Police Force took enforcement action in Kwai Tsing and Sham Shui Po this afternoon (27th) and arrested two men, aged 18 and 29 respectively, on suspicion of violating Sections 9 and 10 of the Crimes Ordinance, Cap 200, Laws of Hong Kong by ” committing an act with seditious intent”. Police investigations revealed that the two arrested persons were suspected of repeatedly posting on social media with seditious intentions to arouse or deepen resentment and hostility among different classes in Hong Kong, as well as incite others to use violence.

In addition, according to court warrants, the police searched their homes and seized electronic communication tools that had been used to publish messages of seditious intent. The two arrested persons have been detained for investigation. The police reminded the public that the crime of “acting with seditious intent” is a serious crime.
