Sha Lo Wan and the ”Clairvoyance” Sculpture

Sha Lo Wan was a very peaceful village hidden in Lantau before the Chep Lap Kok International Airport was built 200 metres away. The area has vehicular access to the area and thus their communication is on foot or by ferry. Because of their inconvenient access to urban areas, villages in the area have suffered from depopulation. Only older generations live in these villages. There are currently only around 50 residents in the Sha Lo Wan village due to the noise level caused by the airport.

At the end of 2018, the UK’s Eden Project and Absolutely Fabulous Theatre Connection decided to organise a Flight festival there to buttress the spirit of the villagers and to give Sha Lo Wan a new lease of life. Pete and Sue Hill, famous sculptor siblings from Cornwall collaborated with the local villagers to build a sculpture named ”Clairvoyance” using local tree trunks. The sculpture is erected to commemorate the conservation of the historical village and to protect its residence against undesirable harm.
