3rd October 2023 – (Hong Kong) Gigi Yim Ming-hay, also known as Wang Kai-yan, is gearing up for her first solo concert, which will be held on 7th October at Kowloonbay International Trade & Exhibition Centre’s Star Hall. The 18-year-old singer recently conducted a full dress rehearsal at a dance studio in Tseung Kwan O, where she dedicated herself to perfecting her choreography with her dance instructor. Despite the challenges, Yim expressed her enjoyment, saying, “I’m naturally slow to warm up, but dancing with the same group of dancers brings me so much joy. I hope the concert will be a success!” The dance and singing segment of the concert will last for over ten minutes, making it the longest performance of its kind in her life. Yim acknowledged the difficulty of the routines, remarking, “These moves are something I’ve never tried before. It takes a lot of time and effort to master them. I truly admire the dancers who make it look effortless.” When asked about any risky moves, she jokingly replied, “Okay, there are some dangers,” but she reassured that the rehearsals have been smooth so far without any accidents. Yim revealed that she has arranged her schedule to have Thursdays free from other commitments so she can focus on full-day rehearsals. She admitted that the most challenging aspect of the concert is not the dancing itself but the different segments that she wants to challenge herself with. She described it as overcoming obstacles and an overall valuable experience.
Regarding rumours about changing her name and purchasing property, Yim laughed off the speculations. She stated that she is currently living in Tseung Kwan O with her aunt and uncle and has no plans to buy a property at the moment. However, she expressed her hopes of owning her dream home someday, emphasising that it doesn’t have to be big but rather a place where she can feel comfortable and relax. Yim explained that her family had considered changing her name when she entered secondary school because her father felt that “Wang Kai-yan” was too common. She clarified, “Changing my name won’t make me an overnight success.” Yim believes that while a name change might have a psychological effect, ultimately, success relies on one’s own efforts.
