15 performances of The NUTCRACKER originally scheduled 17th-27th December cancelled

9th December 2020 – (Hong Kong) Septime Webre, Artistic Director and Heidi Lee, Executive Director of Hong Kong Ballet issued a joint statement on their Facebook today to announce the cancellation of 15 performances of The NUTCRACKER originally scheduled 17th-27th December.

Hong Kong Ballet expressed that many families look forward to Hong Kong Ballet’s traditional Christmas production of The Nutcracker every year and come together to celebrate the warmth of the holidays. However, in light of the pandemic’s surge, the government has announced that all LCSD venues, including Hong Kong Cultural Centre, The Nutcracker’s venue, will be closed from 10th December 2020 until further notice. Therefore, it is with heavy hearts that they must cancel the 15 performances scheduled 17th-27th December.

They said that this decision is tough for those who have purchased tickets and for them who have invested so much into the production. They appeal to those who have bought their tickets to consider making a generous holiday gift to the children of Hong Kong, by donating their tickets to support Hong Kong Ballet’s Student Ticket Fund which underwrites the 50% ticket price for their student audiences. Alternatively, tickets can be exchanged for one of three every special upcoming shows:- George Balanchine’s glittering masterwork, Balanchine’s Jewels to be held 21st from April to 2nd May 2021 at Lyric Theatre, The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Romeo + Juliet, to be held 18th-20th June 2021 at Grand Theatre, Hong Kong Cultural Centre or ALICE (in wonderland) to be held between 13th-15th August 2021 at Grand Theatre, Hong Kong Cultural Centre.
